- Our local astronomers were out last Saturday afternoon viewing the spots on the sun through smoked telescopes. No conclusions have yet been arrived at beyond the fact that the bad weather of the forepart of the week is charged up to the aforementioned spots.
- B.C. Howley reports the loss lately of several head of fine cattle at his Flag Creek ranch from a cause, to him, unknown. He says the cattle were hog fat, but didn’t last long after getting sick. When cut open, the heart was clogged with black clotted blood.

- Last Saturday, about noon, a fire was discovered in the Meeker Hotel block in the rear of the offices occupied by T.B. Scott. The blaze broke out in a room in which a lot of paper and refuse matter was collected. Fortunately, it was discovered before attaining headway. The origin of the fire is somewhat a mystery. It may have been the case of spontaneous combustion.
- P.J. Kirawan, the Glenwood photographer, is due in Meeker this spring near the end of April. He has been here on several occasions, and is one of the best photographers in the state. We excitedly await his arrival.

- Miss Beverly Moyer is the Grand Champion for the annual 4-H Fashion Show, and Miss Sherry Chappell is the Reserve Champion.
- The Meeker Assembly No. 65 Order of Rainbow presented the elementary school with a Play-All toy last week. The gift was a service project for Colorado Past Grand Worthy Advisor, Susan Harper.

- Jim Stubblefield, 60, of Meeker, suffered serious burns on March 17 when a hose broke on a water heater system at American Soda where Stubblefield works.
- The city park has brand-new, heavy gauge steel picnic tables, thanks to a $7,000 Great Outdoor Colorado grant, a donation from the town, and assistance from members of the Lions Club and LDS Church of Meeker.

- A federal Medicare Inspection team was at Rangely District Hospital on March 12 and 13 to evaluate the hospital and its program related to Medicare.
- Wayne Aspinall will be the featured speaker at the Big Country Headwaters RC&D meeting to be held in Craig at 8 pm this Thursday. He will discuss a number of subjects currently of great local interest, including cancellation of agricultural programs.

- Rangely Rural Fire Protection District Firefighter Mike Zadra helped to extinguish the fire at 108 Foothills Drive which started in the basement. A cause is still yet to be determined. Firefighters returned the next day to extinguish the area that was still smoldering.
- Gerardo Cardenas “Lalo” Perex, 28, has been sentenced to 24 years in the state penitentiary in connection with the march 5, 1997 murder of Kenneth Todd Skidmore, 35, formerly of Meeker. Perex pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit first degree murder.
