• A deal was carried through this week whereby the old Dreifuss ranch above town charges the proprietorship of the W. F. Dendy to that of H. S. Harp.
• Joe Rooney returned from Leadville Saturday and reports having a royal time at the Ice Palace.

• G Dr. Brewer, Messrs. Strike and Maloney held a carnival and dance at Rooney Hall on Monday evening, which was titled one of the best things ever pulled off in this old town. It included foxtrot dances and grand marches.
• The Meeker Herald recently denied the Denver telegram rumors asking about work on the construction of Meeker & Northwestern Railroad would commence May 1st.

• Mark Oldland was a blue ribbon finalist in the Scholastic Art Awards show held recently at May D&F in Dever and will go on further to New York for more competition.
• The storm that moved into the area Friday with approximately 4 inches of new snow resulted in icy road conditions and 2 accidents reported by State Highway Patrolman Reed.

• Competition ‘96, an annual publication spotlighting the winners of national bird carving competitions, recently featured the artwork of James B. Mense of Meeker. His goldeneye carving won first in species in the open decorative life-size floating waterfowl category at the Ward World Championship.
• Three special children in the Meeker Area are looking for people to help them compete in the Special Olympics on May 15th.

• Chariot racers from Steamboat Springs will be here Saturday and Sunday with 10-12 races scheduled for each day.
• Don Chism was elected Chief of the Rangely Volunteer fire Department last night at a meeting held at the Fire Hall.

• During the Bureau of Land Management’s wild horse census, seven volunteers assisted the BLM while flying along in the helicopter to verify counts. The BLM estimated that 520 wild horses were left in the White River Resource Area following last year’s gather operation.
• Rangely was one of the 25 entities that was awarded a total of $854,000 in grants by the Great Outdoors Colorado Trust Fund Board on Feb. 26. These grants help communities develop plans for open space conservation, wildlife habitat preservation, trail systems and outdoor recreation projects.
