On Wednesday the Commercial club received a message from Denver, stating that Henry J Hay had passed away that day. The news was received with much regret, especially among the thinning ranks of old timers, among whom the deceased was justly held in very high esteem.

Henry J Hay was born at Peoria, Illinois, July 23, 1847, so was in his 77th year when he joined the Silent Majority. The remains will be laid to rest in Denver.

A large number of Meeker people attended the dance given at Powell Park last Friday night.

The Lady Panthers won the regional basketball title when they beat Ignacio 46-24. These girls are taking their grins and their talent all the way to the State Tournament in Colorado Springs.

Apparently, after the Panthers’ victory over Ignacio on Feb. 26, some of the celebrating got out of hand. Rangely High School Principal Marty Bassett said that 80-130 students and adults ventured over to the Four Queens Motel and harassed the Ignacio team. The Rangely Police Department was called out and broke up the mass of people.

On Feb. 27, four “future civil engineers” from Rangely High School sent their bridges to the “32nd Annual High School Bridge Contest.” Tina Berret, Kelsey Hejl, Dan Bartling and Jared Bentley entered bridges in the competition.
