The Meeker Herald ~ 125 years ago

  • Ambrose Oldland is home again after spending a week in Denver seeing the “elephant” and other capital city attractions. They say Ambrose is an awful gay old boy when he gets out from under our watchful eyes.
  • Mrs. Dave Karen demonstrated her ability to handle a rifle by bringing down a large mountain lion near the Keystone ranch a few days ago.

The Meeker Herald ~ 100 years ago

  • A.E. Lyttle met with a peculiar accident last Friday. With a helper he was repairing a gas tank. In the work it was necessary to use a plumber’s torch. The gas had all been emptied out of the tank and was supposed to be safe, by some kind of gas byproduct from the gasoline had formed in the tank, and the small amount of gas came in contact with the torch to hurl Lytle and his helper across the floor. Neither were seriously injured.
  • F.M. Scott, from McVeigh, Kentucky, is among the latest arrivals. Mr. Scott is a cousin of our fellow townsman, T.B. Scott, and is here on account of his health. He is welcome.

The Meeker Herald ~ 50 years ago

  • Wes Uncapher, former Meeker student and current part time student at CNCC, was one of six students who with their new instructor made a cross-country flight to New York City this weekend. The six planes took off from Denver, flying by way of St. Louis, and made it to New York on Monday. They plan to fly home by Wednesday.
  • While fishing in Teacapan, Sinaloa, Mexico, Mrs. Dunbar of Meeker caught two Corvinas, one weighing 24 pounds and the other 26, setting a village record.

The Meeker Herald ~ 25 years ago

  • Doug Overton accepted an appreciation award from the Meeker Fire and Rescue Service at the group’s annual banquet and dance on March 7 after he recently retired as fire chief.
  • It was a musical show and tell day over the weekend at the high school auditorium, when Glory Rholl’s many music students presented a recital consisting of keyboardists, other musicians, and singers.

Rangely Times ~ 50 years ago

  • Extensive damage resulted to Main Street paving Thursday when a water main on the south side of the street near the Moon Lake building broke and water erupted through the blacktop shortly before midnight. Luckily, the break was discovered by firemen who were just disbanding after their regular meeting, but the water was almost curb deep on both sides of Main Street before it could be shut off.
  • Robert L. Dey, Chairman of the Liberal Arts Division at Rangely College is co -author with Dr. Charles B. Johansson, Office of Educational Research, Macalester College, of an article recently accepted for publication by the Journal of Research in Higher Education. The article, “Assessment of an Experimental College,” has to do with the “Inner College” experiment conducted during the 1970-1971 academic year at Macalester College.

Rangely Times ~ 25 years ago

  • After the site for chariot races was moved from Powell Park to Sleepy Cat, and with the help of the White River Snowmobile Club, the track was groomed and races began without delay. Ten teams from the Yampa Valley Cutter and Chariot Racing Association from Steamboat came to race last weekend, and fun was had by all.
  • After serving the town of Rangely for more than 30 years, the 1965 Chevy Dump Truck was replaced and a new 1983 Ford (with paint done by Steward Welding) which will serve Rangely Cemetery District.
