The baseball boys had their first practice game last Sunday and will soon be ready to meet the nine from Goff’s Crossing, the Rifle Sluggers, or the New Castle Terrors.

This section was visited by a good downpour of rain Thursday night, which was very much needed as the ground was getting pretty dry.

Our public and private buildings were liberally decorated with flags last Saturday in honor of the opening of hostilities with Spain.

Poor old Denver had 10 inches of snow during the recent bad spell. We didn’t have an inch of the beautiful.

If the editor man knew as much about this business as others think they do, there would be a lot of improvement in the country press. 

Tennessee Pass is open to auto travel.

Eleven Meeker High School students were contestants in a Spanish contest held in Alamosa last Friday. Although none of the Meeker students placed, it proved to be an interesting experience for all.

Mrs. Agnes Hunt, who has spent the winter months with her daughter in Greeley, has returned to her home at Rio Blanco. 

Kathy Norell reigned as queen over the Rifle High School Rodeo in Rifle, April 27 and 28. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bud Norell and is a freshman at Meeker High School.

Saturday evening, April 17, the Meeker Lions Club hosted a celebration at the Fairfield Center with a lovely banquet prepared by Halandras catering. Not only was the fare delicious, but the decor was first class. 

The little Cowboys finished their 1999 pee-wee wrestling program last Saturday in Steamboat Springs. Approximately 40 wrestlers competed in the tournament and most of them brought home medals. 

The Bakery and White River Bowl are sponsoring an after prom party. Students are invited to a free breakfast at the bakery and no charge bowling at the bowling alley after the Prom.

The youth of the Christian Church enjoyed a picnic Sunday afternoon in the park. In the evening, the congregation attended a fellowship dinner at the church.

Harry McCluskey, former Rangely High School football coach, has been named head football coach at Thornton High School. 

Winners of the Environmental Essay Contest sponsored by the Dinosaur Nature Association in cooperation with the National Park Service at Dinosaur National Monument were announced at a special assembly at Rangely Middle School this week. The first place winner in the sixth grade was Eloise Klements. The prize is a thrilling expense paid boat trip through the rapids of Split Mountain Gorge in Dinosaur National Monument for Eloise and her parents May 11.

Two Utah men have been sentenced in Moffat County District Court following the illegal killing of a trophy bull elk in 1997 in Luxen Draw on the Three Springs Ranch northeast of Rangely.

RHS senior Tina Berret received a $800 check from the Rangely Town Council for the Rowdy Worm. The Rowdy Worm is an after-prom party, which provides students with games, food, prizes, and even the chance to win a car. 

Leslie Kurtz led the way with a new Rangely High School record in the shot put, sending it out 39’ 1” beating the old record held by Mandi Gates (38’ -Y1996).
