Next Friday the Meeker schools will close for the term, and the conventional school entertainment will be given to the public that evening at Odd Fellows; hall, to which no admission will be charged. The program will conclude with a short play, entitled “A Correspondent Wanted.”

The temperature during the past week was “way below normal in this section” in fact the whole month has been backward. Last evening it cleared up, and a heavy frost was in evidence this morning.

Dr. O.D. Babcock, the dentist, will be in Meeker Monday, May 23rd and remain eight days, leaving May 31st.

Quite a few people who left these parts past few years, under the dry farming slump, are drifting back, as a result of our improved outlook for both dry and wet farming operations,

The Meeker hotel dining room was formerly opened Sunday by Mrs. JE Kilduff who served a fine dinner. Nearly all the old timers were in attendance.

A number of campers came in this week and headed for upper White side dreams and the lakes.

Fifty-six members of the Meeker High School Class of 1974 will be awarded their high school diplomas during formal ceremonies on Wednesday, May 22 at 8pm in the high school auditorium.

Poppy Day will be observed in Meeker on Thursday, May 23. The artificial poppies, symbols of our war dead, will be sold by the Ladies of the American Legion Auxiliary. 

Mrs. Tom Watt accompanied her daughter, Mrs. John Smith and children of Craig to Fort Collins Sunday of last week, and remained thru Thursday with her daughter, Ann Gentry and with her son, Dr. Tom Watt.

The rainy weather last Friday cleared up just long enough for the Barone Middle School eighth grade to get their hands dirty and plant a shelterbelt consisting of Scotch and Austrian pine seedlings in Paintbrush Park.

Jennifer Huffman, a 1998 Meeker High School graduate, has completed her U.S. Navy training and has been assigned to the aircraft carrier USS George Washington.

Kellie and Coley Turner are proud to announce the birth of their first child, Casey O’Brien, born 25th at St. Mary’s Hospital.

Due to the extreme shortage of convertibles, the Chamber of Commerce has decided to use open four wheel drive vehicles to transport honored guests at this year’s parade. Anyone having such a vehicle with a removable top, please contact Cecil Lollar. 

The eighth grade class of Dinosaur enjoyed a banquet at the school on Saturday. Parents of eighth grade students and workers of the school attended the banquet. Mr. McGee, the eighth grade teacher, gave a talk. Mrs. Biles donated tulips, and Mrs. Jean Buntin donated lilacs. 

The wind raised havoc with power lines in the area, including the Rangely, Bluebell, Altamont, and Duchesne oil fields over the weekend.

There are more chickens than people in the world. 

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, Tae Kwon Do will be offered in the Parkview Gym at 6 until 7:30 pm. The fee for this class is $20 a month. 

Nine men competed in the State Track and Field Meet over this past weekend. Of the nine, only one athlete was able to place. Mike Cochrane finished in 5th place in the Discus.
