A dozen chickens were stolen from the Miller house hen roost a few nights ago. The comical part of it is: there isn’t a coon in Meeker.
Several new musical instruments were brought in this week, consigned to the following citizens: A cabinet grand piano to R. Oldland; an upright piano to C. A. Booth; and an organ to C. A. Morrow.
Again are rumors of railways flying around in the air, and work is, so they say, to be commenced out of New Castle this fall. These things are all going to happen some day, but better now than after awhile.

Our long spell of remarkably good weather is still with us.
A general storm prevailed last Saturday and Sunday from Medicine Hat to the Rio Grande.
The stonemasons and bricklayers are now at work on the second story of our new high school building. Good progress is being made in all departments of construction work.

A steep hill and slick roads were the main ingredients in an early morning November 4 semi-truck accident which killed 135 sheep.
Damage to the truck and its contents of 400 head of sheep was estimated at $16,000. The accident happened at 3:20 in the morning and Patrolman Reed said it took hours to pull all the sheep out.
“T-Day”, more commonly known as Thanksgiving, will be here in only one week.
Twelve Meeker Future Farmers of America (FFA) boys placed high in the livestock, dairy and horse judging contests held in Grand Junction Saturday. The boys and their coach, Paul Starbuck, brought home superior honors in livestock and dairy and an excellent in horses.

The year at Meeker Alternative High School is going very well. We have accomplished a lot in this first semester. For example. The Adopt A Highway projects, our enrollment is full, community service activities, and now our Thanksgiving projects.
Meeker police again caution businesses not to purchase any advertising space on any high school sports calendars without first checking with police or the school district. Every day, according to Meeker police, Meeker businesses are getting bills for fake advertising for a non-existent sports calendar.
Meeker High School’s Building Assistance Team would like to thank the Rio Blanco County United Way for the grants that we have received to help students this year. One grant is being used to fund an after school help program.

Rio Blanco County has received word that the federal government has awarded the county a grant for $4.75 million for substantial improvement work on Colorado 139 – the Douglas Pass Road.
