Snow began falling in the vicinity Wednesday night, and continued off and on Thursday until the ground was covered a few inches. That night it cleared up, and as a result the mercury was toying with the zero mark this morning.
One of Adam Eckel’s horses was raffled off a few days ago, and was won by Frank Shaver. Thirty-five dollars were netted.
A large crowd was in attendance at the dance Thursday evening.

The White River Development Company, which is drilling for oil at White River, has struck another big flow of gas in the newest well (in shallow sand), at a depth of 650 ft.
The final game of the football season on Meeker’s schedule was not the success we had hoped for as the locals were defeated by Steamboat 37-6.
On Saturday and Sunday nights, Meeker and vicinity was visited by dense fogs and the following mornings, the trees, fences, and landscape had a beautiful coating of fleece-like whiteness, resembling snow.

As a part of the water study being done for Meeker by Wright-McLaughlin Engineers, the flow and static pressures are being checked at all the fire hydrants around town. Frank Marsh, Water superintendent of Meeker, said the Town has a fire rating of about 7-8, which is about as good as you can get.
Jim Cook said he would get together with Dwayne Flinn who is very interested in getting an ice skating rink up. Permission and money will have to be obtained from the County and Town Council first before anything is started.
While the last football game was played almost three weeks ago, a season is never really over until the football banquet is completed. Summarizing, Coach Bob Tucker’s words of praise, “Sometimes you win a few and lose a few, but a team that has never lost is the football mothers. It gets better every year.”

The Rio Blanco Board of County Commissioners on Nov. 23 voted to spend $2,222 or so to outfit all 10 windows in the county jail with heavy steel security windows.
The Meeker Herald thanks the young men and women of the Meeker Alternative High School for the Thanksgiving treats.
The White River Community Club started their season off on Nov. 15, 1998. About 30 members with some guests attended a turkey dinner.

Two juveniles were arrested in a stolen car in Craig after Cletis Sims in Dinosaur advised Craig law enforcement officers of the breaking and entering of the Dinosaur Conoco Station at about 10:30 p.m. on Nov. 12.

Last week, a front-page photo caption said that, according to a county official, the smell coming from Stinking Water Creek was caused by treated sewage water coming from Chevron facilities upstream. “Not so!” exclaims Jody Inbody, Chevron’s environmental engineer. “Stinking Water was called that long before oil was even discovered here.”
She said she doesn’t know how the wash got that name, or why it smells – if it smells – but the smell has nothing to do with Chevron.
