Rio Blanco County should be represented at the mountain and plain festival with some kind of a float. A chunk of coal weighing a ton or so (if nothing else) would be quite the advertisement for this section.
“Broncho John” Martin had a narrow escape from death Thursday. While going to Rifle his wagon tipped over and the box caught him, pinning him to the ground. Hank Golden who happened to be near had quite a time getting the man out.
Duncan Blair, who has been stopping in Meeker for a couple of weeks receiving medical attention, was taken to Rifle Thursday and will be placed in Denver hospital. The chances for his ultimate recovery are very slim.
Marvine Lodge is having a good run of tourists since the season opened, and among those stopping there have been people from nearly every state in the union.

Another heavy rain last Sunday and Monday, followed by frosty nights and sunshiny days.
Preparations for starting several New wells in the Axial basin region are under way.
Meeker had many beautiful flower gardens past season. Some are still in bloom. Mrs. Ed Saltmarsh could have captured a blue ribbon had she exhibited her asters at the fair– or any of the fairs, for that matter.

Rio Blanco Stockgrowers Association members met last Tuesday evening in the Court House to discuss with officials how to cut down on cattle rustling. While Rio Blanco hasn’t been plagued with a lot of cattle thefts like other areas everyone wants to make sure it doesn’t start up.
Fifteen members of the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the Council on Abandoned Military Posts (C.A.M.P.) held their fall meeting in Meeker on September 22-23 with members of the Rio Blanco County Historical Society as guides and hosts.
Mrs. Harry George, who was involved in a car accident in Denver a week ago Sunday, is recovering satisfactorily at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Everett Place in Littleton.

Homecoming in Meeker is just around the corner, so almost every day at 11:30, the Meeker High School band marches down Main Street to practice for the big parade. Then, at 1:30, the middle school band takes its turn on the Main Street loop.
Third and fourth grade students in Meeker School District handily surpassed the overall performance of students state-wide on the Colorado Student Assessments (CSAP) in Reading and Writing.
Sheriff Phil Stubblefield is pleased to announce that Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office has been recognized as an “Accredited Colorado Law Enforcement Agency” through professional standards.

The Ladies Golf Association met for their final game this year on Sept. 18. A luncheon was held at the Chevron Rec Hall with 12 members present.
Robert L. Daniels was among the members of the 45th class of the Fort Worth (Tex.) Police Academy that graduated from the Police and Fire Training Academy Sept. 14 in Fort Worth.
The Christian Church youth group went to Craig Saturday for a fellowship rally. A breakfast was held in the Rangely Christian Church on Friday.

The Rangely High School Marching Band debuted its field show on September 25 at the Homecoming football game.
The lady Panthers finally showed what they were made of in a 15-11,15-2 drumming of the Paonia Eagles.
Lindsey Heilmann and David O-Neal were announced as Homecoming Queen and King.
