RBC — Three events will take place this week honoring former district court judge J.E. DeVilbiss.
DeVilbiss, 73, died Sept. 18 from natural causes.
On Friday at 10:30 a.m., a formal memorial will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
On Saturday at 3 p.m. at Paepcke Auditorium on the Aspen Meadows campus, there will be a community celebration of DeVilbiss’s life. The memorial will be followed at 4:30 p.m. with a reception at the Elks Lodge in downtown Aspen.
All events are open to anyone who would like to take part, said Peggy DeVilbiss, J.E.’s former wife.
DeVilbiss had been serving as an Aspen city councilman at the time of his death.
He was district court judge for 26 years, and he loved Rio Blanco County. The court system allows judges to take turns making the trip to the courthouse in Meeker. For many years, DeVilbiss requested keeping the Rio Blanco obligations all to himself. He was a frequent visitor to many community events including the Meeker Classic Sheepdog Trials.
