What do you remember about the Yellow Creek School?
The Rio Blanco County Historical Society and Bureau of Land Management, White River Field Office are tracing the history of the Yellow Creek Schoolhouse and request the help of the community.
Located halfway between Meeker and Rangely, along State Highway 64, this schoolhouse served the surrounding area for almost 40 years before being used as a dance hall prior to its abandonment by the 1960s.
Stories, photocopies, or archival information are requested to help complete the historical record, which has been largely successful thanks to the ongoing efforts of the Historical Society and community members and Alpine Archaeological Consultants, Inc.
If interested to learn more or to contribute to the Yellow Creek Schoolhouse project, please contact Historical Society Executive Director Teresa R. Reed at 970-388-7164 or [email protected]. If you have items, articles or photos you can drop them off at the White River Museum. We can scan and record documents and photos to use in our research.
