MEEKER — A California man was ejected from his truck Saturday when he swerved to avoid hitting a deer.
The Rio Blanco County Communications Center received a 911 call Saturday, March 22 at 9:27 a.m. reporting a rollover accident south of Meeker at approximately 37500 on Highway 13. Colorado State Patrol Trooper Mike Heath, Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Deputy Adam Wade and Meeker Volunteer Fire and Rescue responded to the accident location.
A nurse at the accident scene reported that the driver had been ejected approximately 30 feet from the truck as it rolled once. The driver, Levi Brandon Hughes, 25, of Sutter Creek, Calif., was not wearing a seatbelt in his 1991 Dodge truck when he swerved to avoid hitting a deer. Hughes was transported by ambulance to Pioneers Medical Center and shortly thereafter transferred to St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction by the Careflight helicopter in serious condition with head injuries sustained from the accident.
