MEEKER | A one-day delay benefited the Meeker Education Foundation with an additional team entered into the annual Golf Classic, played at the Meeker Golf Course last Sunday instead of Saturday.
“The biggest joy was having the sun shine,” Mary Strang, president of the MEF said about Sunday’s weather. “We had a good group of enthusiastic people.”
Thirteen teams made up the championship flight and it was Ducey Electric’s team which won the four-person scramble 18-hole tournament with a score of 54. Haselden No. 2 finished second with a score of 57, while team SGM scored a 59.
The Nana Goose team scored 60, and team Elk Creek scored 61. Three teams—Sam’s Stars, Enterprise and Haselden No.1—all scored 62. Hot Shots finished with a 63, Natural Soda turned in 64, Chippers a 66, 68 and team B-T&S.
“We have many loyal and generous donors,” Strang said. “All the money generated from this event goes into the grant fund, which goes into the classroom and supports student enrichment opportunities.”
Strang serves on the board with Tom Allen, Erik Brown, Stacey Burke, Becky Hughes, Jerry Oldland and Dr. Kellie Turner.
