MEEKER | Want to improve your memory? Build your problem-solving skills? Release stress? Those are just some of the proven benefits that come from painting. The Thursday Art on a Kart program, presented by the Meeker Arts and Cultural Council, provides an opportunity for everyone to pick up a paintbrush.
Instructor Liz Waters has become a familiar face for many in the Meeker community, teaching various painting classes for all ages at Smoking River Arts Studio, now the home of the Meeker Coworking Community, with her Art on a Kart program.
“My love of art and skiing had brought me to the mountains 18 years ago and has given me the opportunity to teach in many communities,” Waters said via email. “Fresh out of grad school I landed the Aspen High School art teaching position in 2000 and spent the next 13 years teaching high school full time in three mountain towns. When school was out for summers I spent mine teaching art in most of the art centers from Aspen to Glenwood.”
Waters will continue bringing art to Meeker with the After School Art School from 4-6 p.m. and Art at Night from 6-8 p.m. every Thursday at the Meeker Coworking Community.
“I hope to also include some weekend workshops and school break art camps in the future,” Waters said, adding, “I really love Meeker and I have had a lot of fun getting to know the community teaching after school art classes, family classes and painting classes. I am very excited about teaching in the new Meeker Coworking Community space and am grateful for the Meeker Arts and Cultural Council for all of their support and encouragement.”
