Special to the HT
MEEKER | The Food Bank of Meeker exists to serve the vulnerable and financially challenged households in our community with food, kindness and hope. I’m pleased to say we have been able to extend our mission to over 700 Meeker residents in 2025 to date. This number represents double the number of households we served in 2024.
As we can all relate to some extent, the past few years’ rise in food prices has hit everyone in what is typically a very tight spot — our wallets. New clients of our Food Bank increase every month. In addition to this situation over the past several years, the current uncertainty with a government shutdown may extend food insecurity to more of our friends and neighbors in Meeker.
We are in need of shelf-stable food and frozen meat donations. Meats that are professionally processed and packaged that are in demand are: beef, ground beef, chicken, pork, lamb and wild game. We also provide a donation bin at Clark’s Market that you can drop off shelf-stable foods anytime you shop. A list of suggested items is located on our donation bin itself.
Monetary donations are especially welcome and needed at this time. This allows us to purchase specific items in high demand or running low on our shelves. We can occasionally purchase fresh dairy items for clients as well. To donate in any way to your Meeker Community Food Bank, you can drop off shelf-stable food at Clark’s Market or at the White River Methodist Church at 809 Park Avenue (on Wednesday or Thursday). For monetary donations or with any questions, please contact the White River Methodist Church, 970-878-5904.
I’ll take this opportunity to express our gratitude to Clark’s Market that continues to donate food and sundries every week. Thank you also to the Meeker Lions Club and Judy Eskelson for recent donations of frozen meat. If you have some frozen meat you’d like to clear out before hunting season or to get ready for the new year, please consider making us a donation.
This is your community food bank, serving all our friends and neighbors in need. We welcome all churches and local businesses/organizations to pitch in and help serve and strengthen Meeker. Thank you for your continued support!
