Barone Middle School Student Council representatives Dexter Chinn and Ryan Hanberg, now in seventh grade, presented a check to the Meeker Education Foundation (MEF) for $516.89. Last spring, BMS Student Council members organized a “penny wars” fundraiser. “We wanted to do something to give back to the community and we decided to give it [the money] to MEF because of everything they do for us,” Hanberg said. The MEF raises and distributes funds to Meeker schools for supplies, books, equipment and more. Also in attendance were three sixth graders, who read messages from their fellow students thanking the MEF for financial support to send them on the annual sixth grade outdoor education trip.
