Habitat protection underway for property near Starbuck Stadium

Special to the HT

MEEKER | Neighbors to Meeker School District property will see new signs on the hillside north of the football stadium. The District asks the community to help protect that property for its educational value and natural resources.

The property exhibits unique geological and ecological features. Biological diversity, especially among flowering plants and in the bird community, is exceptional. Science classes utilize the site for class work and research. Data collected on the site also help to inform policy decisions related to land use and the changing climate.

Please respect District efforts to preserve this remarkable habitat. If you visit the property, walk carefully and with an eye out for the tiny flowers on Spring hillsides, hawks circling overhead, and the many critters that find refuge hidden in the brush and gullies. Motor vehicles are not allowed.
