MEEKER | For years Katelin Cook has been making custom gifts on the weekends from her home. Her husband Deloy Cook and she have a spare bedroom dedicated as her workshop. And she didn’t really think she would ever have an actual storefront for her goods. Not until she was approached by the owners of Nana Goose Interiors & Gifts who were prepared to see their shop take on new life with a new tenant.
“It is very important to me to keep a downtown spot from being vacant,” Cook said as she gave me the rundown of her move into the location at 590 Main St., Meeker, Colorado. With plans to host workshops and welcome in pop-up shops for other creators to show their wares, it is clear she feels humbled to be able to facilitate this positive imprint on our town. This won’t be solely a move for Cook to sell her own creations, she wants to create opportunities for others, including youth entrepreneurs.
Cook will continue her full time job as a commercial and real estate Lender at the local Mountain Valley Bank branch. It was an event hosted by the bank this previous summer that inspired her to see a real potential for our community’s youth, her own children included. The event invited kids ages 5-12 to learn basic business strategies by aiding them in the setup and operation of a lemonade and cupcake stand. She eventually wants to promote that type of forward thinking within our community, and sees this storefront as an opportunity to do so.
For now she is pleased to start out with a soft opening on Monday, Jan. 30, and a grand opening Friday, Feb. 3. At the grand opening there will be giveaways and of course the opportunity to support a family effort to keep Meeker’s commercial buildings occupied.
You will find engraved and laser printed home decor items, flower arrangements by Cecilia Carrillo, and I think it’s safe to say you may even find new opportunities with each visit.
