Longtime Rangely resident Kenneth “Kenny” William Hillis, 59, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, Aug. 28, 2021.
Kenny was the son of Jack and Peggy Hillis. He was born Dec. 29, 1961, in Rangely, Colorado. Kenny graduated from Rangely High School. He attended Lamar Junior College for two years. He married his best friend and the love of his life, Georgia Lockett Stephen, on Dec. 27, 1997. Home base was Mack, Colorado, since 2003.
Both he and Georgia spent many years on the road working on many different pipelines. Work that he loved and knew well. His career began at Striegel Pipeline as an equipment operator, moving on as a mechanic on heavy equipment and finishing out his career as utility inspector.
Kenny was a very kind soul, loving husband, son, brother and stepfather. He loved being grandpa to Teagan, Charlee Rose, Adam, Hannah and Austin. In addition he was an amazing uncle to his nieces and nephews Erin, Keenan, Stephanie, Erik, Brook and Zach.
He enjoyed hunting, his puppies and spending time with family.
Kenny was preceded in death by his parents.
Kenny is survived by his wife Georgia; sisters Patsy (Jon) Drindak of
Fruita, Colorado; Nancy (Jim) MacIntosh of Festival, Arizona; Susan (Jerry) Anderson of Marble, Colorado; nieces Erin (Jon) McEvers, Evergreen, Colorado; Stephanie (Ty) Petersburg of Evergreen, Colorado; Brook (Don) Wilson of Loma, Colorado; nephews Keenan (Ashley) Anderson of Fruita, Colorado; Erik (Stephanie) Ebbesen of Loma, Colorado; Zach (Cera) MacIntosh of Grand
Junction, Colorado; stepson Shane (Heather) Stephen of Lubbock, Texas; stepdaughter Jami McLennan (Jeff Perham) of Fruita, Colorado; great-nieces Addison, Quinn, Boden, Lucas, Harper and Owen; grandchildren Teagan, Charlee Rose, Adam, Hannah and Austin.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. at the Rangely Cemetery on Sept. 11, 2021, followed by a Celebration of Life at the Camper Park.
