MEEKER | The 2019 Meeker Volleyball season has come to an end. With an outstanding year of amazing memories, an undefeated league season and a fifth place at the state tournament, the Cowboys have nothing to hang their heads about. The Cowboys traveled to Denver last Wednesday to compete in their third state tournament. The Cowboys played Simla in their first round of games after having a bye the first matches on Thursday afternoon. The Cowboys beat Simla in three games. Staying in the winners bracket, the Cowboys played Limon on Friday afternoon where they unfortunately lost in five games by two points to the Badgers.
The Cowboys then moved to the loser bracket where they played the Wiggins Tigers at 8am on Saturday morning. The Cowboys played strong but lost the fourth set 30-28 to the Tigers which illuminated the Cowboys from the rest of the state tournament. Although the tournament didn’t go as planned, the Mile High Prep Report shows the greatness of the Cowboys with their Class 2A total season state stats. Julia Dinwiddie, number 4 in the state for hitting leaders at 387 kills, followed by Emma Luce at number 13 with 266 kills. Addie Joy with 528 assists and Becca Steerman at 510 assists at number 10 and number 11 for 2A assist leaders. Caleigh Morlan with 74 service aces at number 4 for ace leaders. Finally, Kirsten Brown with 78 digs at number 5 for digging leaders.
The Cowboys will graduate six seniors this year, Julia Dinwiddie, Caleigh Morlan, Haley Folllman, Becca Steerman, Kirsten Brown, and Addie Joy.
