MEEKER | The Lady Cowboy ballers took to the court for the opening weekend of winter sports in the White River Electric Association 22nd annual Cowboy Shootout.
As hosts, Meeker played in the final game of Thursday evening, taking on a tough 1A Nucla that had speed and height. The Cowboy lead at the half was closed when Nucla had a strong third quarter that the Cowboys were unable to recover from. Final score 42-55.
On the left side of the bracket, the Cowboys met Lotus School of Excellence in a dominating, quick, and efficient 70-5 win in their Friday afternoon game.
Saturday in game three of the tournament, facing the newest team to ever play in the tournament, Altamont pulled ahead in the third quarter and didn’t give it up. In the fourth the teams were even scoring 11 all.
At the end of the three day weekend, Ainsley Selle is currently leading the team in points with 34 and rebounds with 27, Reese Clatterbaugh is leading in steals with 13, and Charlie Rogers shot 100% at the line. Selle also made the all tournament team.
“The girls worked hard and did some great things,” commented head coach Jamie Rogers. “We need to clean up our turn overs and get consistent in our rebounding position.”
“Our team word is growth,” finished Rogers. “We are constantly looking for ways to grow as athletes and humans.”
The girls now have a break, with no more games for the varsity until January 11th. C Team will have matches this Saturday at a tournament in Rifle.
