MEEKER I The Lady Cowboy volleyball team traveled to Steamboat Springs last Friday for a non-league game and a learning experience against the larger school.
“We did a lot of good things, but we are still trying to find our groove,” coach Christy Atwood said.
Meeker came out and beat the 4A Sailors 25-21 in the first game, but lost the next three.
“Kathryn Doll has stepped up and become a leader,” Atwood said. “Our serving was better and our passing was incredible. We just couldn’t get the ball to hit the floor after the first game.”
Meeker lost the match after losing the next three games 25-14, 25-18 and 25-18.
“We were scrappy in our efforts, we just couldn’t get the win,” Atwood said. “We’ll practice and refine our trouble spots and give it our best in Hayden.”
The Lady Cowboys will play a non-league match against the host team in Hayden and a league match against Vail Christian, the defending Western Slope champion, on Saturday.
“We have all the talent in the world, we just need to find our groove,” Atwood repeated.
