RANGELY | Rangely volleyball hosted their annual season opener tournament on Sept. 1-2. Rangely played Moffat County in the first match of the tournament. They beat Moffat County in two straight sets 25-7 and 25-16. The lady Panthers served well, with Kassidee Brown leading with 10 earned points. Rangely then played Lotus School of Excellence, winning 25-4 and 25-5 in straight sets. Halle Elam led the team with 10 earned points. Rangely finished day one of the tournament 2-0.
Rangely started out a little slow on Saturday against Hotchkiss but got the ball rolling, beating Hotchkiss 25-23 and 25-14. Kaylalle Fortunato led the team with 13 earned points and two aces. The ladies had to sit two matches to play the last match of the day against Telluride. Telluride came out ready to play as Rangely struggled to get into rhythm, dropping the first set 22-25. As the second set started Rangely continued to struggle. The Panthers did make a late surge to get within two points, but came up short losing the second set 21-25. Kaylalle Fortunato had great serving against Telluride also, with 11 earned points.
Rangely ended the weekend 3-1, and looking forward to what’s to come. They are ready to put in the work to get better as the season progresses. Rangely will play Plateau Valley Friday at 4 and 5 p.m. and will also host Baggs, Wyo., on Saturday at 5 and 6 p.m. Come out and support Rangely volleyball.
