RANGELY I The lady Panthers had a long weekend of basketball, opening up with Hayden last Thursday. It was a tough physical loss for the Panthers with a score of 39-30 to the Tigers.
“At times we played well and did a lot of good things. We just ran out of time at the end,” said head coach Jimmie Mergelman.
Ryann Mergelman led scoring with eight, followed by Mary Scoggins with seven, Adelynn Halcomb with five, Ashlynn Ducey and Annika Cantrell with four each and Miah Wren with two. Mergelman pulled down eight rebounds followed by Cantrell with six. Ducey and Scoggins led with three steals each.
Friday the Panthers traveled to DeBeque for the second league game of the week. The lady Panthers came out strong and played a consistent game, winning 47-33. Leading in scoring were Mergelman with 12, followed by Ducey 11, Wren and Cantrell with six each, Miley Chism with four and Halcomb with three. Controlling the boards were Ducey with nine, Mergelman with seven and Cantrell with six.
Saturday at home against Soroco, the Panthers were a little rocked back in the first quarter but settled in. Mergelman led with 15, followed by Miah Wren with 10, Halcomb six, Ducey and Kaitlyn Cox each finished with two points. Annika Cantrell did a nice job of rebounding pulling down 10, followed by Mergelman with seven and Ducey with five. I thought we played one of our best quarters of basketball in the fourth quarter and outscored the Rams 15-12.
We look ahead this week with a home game on Friday against West Grand and head to Olathe on Saturday.
