The Rangely lady Panthers excelled in their second pre-season tournament, the Western Slope Winter Classic, hosted on their home court. They emerged victorious in all three games, boosting their record to an impressive 5-0.
The Panthers kicked off the tournament against the Nucla Mustangs, scoring 14 points in the first quarter and maintaining their momentum with 18 and 17 points in the subsequent quarters. Key scorers were Wren (14 points), Cantrell (12) and Ducey (7).
In their second game against the North Park Wildcats, every team member contributed to the score, showcasing excellent teamwork. Wren led with an outstanding 32 points, followed by Ducey (13), and both Fielder and Cantrell with six points each.
Championship Game Against DeBeque Dragons: Despite a slow start against the DeBeque Dragons, trailing 8-7 at the end of the first quarter, the Panthers rallied back. Their pressing defense caused eight turnovers from the Dragons, aiding in scoring a total of 58 points. Wren again led the scoring with 20 points, supported by Chism (11), Wagner (10), Cantrell and Ducey (8 each), and Tapia (1).
Looking forward, the Panthers are excited for their upcoming challenges at the Yuma Classic. They will face Yuma in their first game and, depending on the results, either Limon or Sterling in subsequent matches.
