RANGELY I Rangely’s lady Panthers took Districts head on. The Panthers finished fourth, taking on the Hayden Tigers on Tuesday. Rangely came out a little slow and just couldn’t get going in the first half. Going into half, the Panthers were up 14-12. After that, the girls took off, putting up 13 in the third and then a great fourth quarter outscoring the Tigers 25-10. Final score was 52-28. Mary Scoggins led the way with 15 points followed by Ryann Mergelman with 12, Ashlynn Ducey with 11, Adelynn Halcomb with six, Miah Wren four, Lexi LeBleu and Annika Cantrell with two each. Scoggins also led the way with nine rebounds, followed by Mergelman and Cantrell with six each.
With the Panthers securing the win, they advanced to the semi-finals on Friday to take on the Soroco Rams, a very hot team. “They came out and could not miss,” said head coach Jimmie Mergelman. The Panthers fell to the Rams with a score of 61-24. This put the Panthers in a must win on Saturday for the third fourth place game. “We came out ready and out scored the PV Cowboys 9-3 in the first quarter and didn’t look back. We went on to win 45-34, securing a spot in the Regional tournament,” Mergelman said.
Wren led scoring with 16, followed by Halcomb with 11, Mergelman with 10, Scoggins with six, and Ducey with two. The lady Panthers will head to Cedaredge for the first round of regionals on Friday taking on the Hoehne Farmers at 7 p.m. The winner will advance to Saturday taking on the winner of the Cedaredge and Byers match.
