RANGELY | The lady Panthers split their matches last weekend. The girls played their last home game of the season against Olathe and made it exciting, winning the match in four sets. The Panthers played their best match of the season being aggressive and determined. Adelynn Halcomb had 32 assists on the match. Aspen Low led with 14 kills, with Kyrah Phelps and Maya Mercado adding in 12 kills apiece. Leading in defensive play for the Panthers was Mercado with six solo blocks and Halcomb with 15 digs.
On Saturday, April 24, Rangely traveled to Paonia. Rangely was hoping to end the season on a high note but Paonia had other ideas. The Panthers struggled to get the offense going with missed serves and missed opportunities at the net. Paonia took advantage of Rangely’s mistakes and won the match in three straight sets. Mercado and Low led with only four kills apiece. Emma Smith had some success behind the serving line and chipped in with three aces. Smith also led with 10 digs, with Ryann Mergelman and Phelps contributing eight digs each. Both middles, Mercado and Low, played well at the net with four solo blocks by Mercado and five by Low.
Coach Cox stated that she was very pleased with the growth this team made this season. It wasn’t the outcome she wanted for them but sees so much potential. She is proud of the players that played in positions that they were not used to playing, stepping up and doing what was asked of them.
