RANGELY | The Lady Panthers took on the Hayden Tigers for their home league opener Saturday, Jan. 5. Panthers played a great defensive game, struggled scoring in the second half, and ultimately came away with a win. Leading the Panthers was Skylar Thacker with 24 points, Alanna Wiley with five, and Mary Scoggins and Marlena Miller with two each. Hannah Wilkie led with 3 assists, and Wiley led with nine rebounds followed closely by Cochrane with eight.
“We will take on Olathe Tuesday, and then travel to Vail Christian on Friday, and host Plateau Valley on Saturday at Parkview Elementary,” said head coach Jimmie Mergelman via email Monday. Both are league games.
The junior varsity lady Panthers basketball team took on Hayden as well on Saturday and came away with a 33-14 win. The lady Panthers defense was stifling throughout the entire game with multiple defensive steals led by freshman Mary Scoggins, Adelynn Halcomb and Shauna Lapp. Scoggins led the Lady Panthers in scoring with 14 points. Scoggins was followed by fellow freshman Adelynn Halcomb who scored 12 and Shauna Lapp with three points. Junior Audrye Patch and freshman Mckinley Winkler added two points each toward the win.
