RANGELY | The Rangely Lady Panthers capped off a spectacular regular season with two decisive victories at the Evangel Christian Academy Tournament last weekend, solidifying their position as a dominant force in Class 2A basketball.
On Friday night, the Panthers showcased their prowess with a commanding 54-12 victory over Cotopaxi High School. Miah Wren led the charge with 24 points, while Emmeree Wagner lit up the court with 22 points, including six 3-pointers. Addison Scott, Aubrianna Tapia, Ashlynn Ducey and Miley Chism each contributed two points, demonstrating the team’s depth and versatility.
The victory propelled the Panthers into the championship game Saturday, where they faced a tougher challenge against Evangel Christian Academy. In a hard-fought battle, the Lady Panthers emerged victorious with a 68-51 win. Wren once again led the scoring with 29 points, followed by Ducey with 14, Tapia with 12, Wagner with six, Scott with four and Chism with three.
The wins secured an undefeated 23-0 regular season record for Rangely. Their stellar performance earned them the No. 4 seed in the Class 2A state tournament, allowing them to host the regional tournament.
The highly anticipated regional tournament begins Friday, March 7, at 5 p.m., when the Panthers face Ridgway. A win would advance them to Saturday’s game against the winner of the South Park vs. Akron matchup. The winner of Saturday’s game will move on to the state tournament, scheduled for March 13-15.
