RANGELY | The lady Panthers had a busy weekend with three league games. They traveled to West Grand on Thursday and “came out pretty slow” according to head coach Jimmie Mergelman, but the girls went on to win the game 46-29. Skylar Thacker finished with 25, Hannah Wilkie with eight, Marlena Miller with six, Kacie Lapp, Mary Scoggins and Alanna Wiley each had two, and Makenzie Cochrane had a free throw.
Friday, Feb. 15 the Panthers traveled to De Beque. De Beque came out on fire in the first quarter and the Panthers found themselves down 9-17 at the end of the first. The girls came back and and had a better second quarter and were down 10 at half. In a great comeback, the girls closed the gap to 51-53 with two minutes left.
“We missed a couple of buckets and then couldn’t close the game out and ended up falling 58-66,” Mergelman said. Thacker had “the game of her life” scoring 32 points, followed by Miller with nine, Wilkie and Wiley with six, Scoggins with four, Cochrane and Lapp with two each.
Saturday the Panthers hosted Caprock for senior night, winning 52-8. Thacker finished with 16, Wilkie 13, Scoggins, Miller and Adelynn Halcomb with four, Alanna Wiley, Phalon Osborn and Zoey Peck with three and Cochrane with two. Tuesday, they also beat Vail Christian.
