RANGELY — The lady Panthers hosted a makeup game against DeBeque Feb 5. Things went well for the home team from the start, as Rangely jumped up to a 14-4 after the first quarter. Things continued on for the lady Panthers and by half time the score was 25-6, Rangely.
“I used this as a great opportunity for my young girls to get some experience and work on things,” head coach Jimmie Mergelman said. The final score was 56-25.
“I was very pleased with the young girls; they are making a lot of progress and doing well,” Mergelman said.
Victoria Phelan finished with 16, Erin Watson with seven, Hillary Hayes, Makayla Schoenfeld each scored six, Rozilynn Thacker had five, Marie Morton three and Heather Wanstedt with four. Meagan Piering, Dakota Kinney and Tori Slagle all finished with two points apiece.
Last Saturday the lady Panthers went to West Grand for a league matchup.
“I thought we did a nice job of jumping out to a good start and were ready to play,” Mergelman said. By the end of the first quarter, the score was 17-7, Panther’s favor.
“Then we had a little lapse in play during the second and third quarter and let them back into the game,” Mergelman said. By the end of the third the score was 22-29 Panthers.
“We pulled ourselves back together and finished the game strong, only allowing six points in the fourth quarter,” Mergelman said. The final score was 42-28 Panthers.
Phelan finished with 13, Watson 11, Hayes nine, Schoenfeld four, Hogan three and Slagle with two.
“We are looking forward to our last weekend of league play, as we will go to Meeker Friday night and Hayden Saturday,” Mergelman said.
Games in Meeker start at 4 p.m. Tip off in Hayden is scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday.
