MEEKER | SGM, a civil engineering, consulting, and surveying firm headquartered in Glenwood Springs, CO, with additional offices in Meeker, Gunnison, Grand Junction, Salida, Durango, and Aspen, awards scholarships to assist aspiring civil engineers and surveyors in pursuit of their studies. The Steve Westhoff Scholarship is in honor of Steve Westhoff, an SGM field engineer whose integrity, humor, and vast technical knowledge were an inspiration to SGM and many clients.
SGM is pleased to announce Meeker High School Senior Elijah LeBlanc as one of the six Steve Westhoff Scholarship recipients for 2023. This year SGM had 25 applicants from across Western Colorado, and each year the caliber of the students continues to rise — Elijah being no exception.
LeBlanc demonstrates a passion and enthusiasm for engineering. He is creative, curious and committed to learning all things new — all qualities embodied by Steve Westhoff, a beloved and inspirational SGM employee for whom the scholarship is named. The SGM scholarship committee was impressed with LeBlanc’s hard work and dedication to his studies, which is evident in his strong academic record not only in math and science but across the board. LeBlanc demonstrates strong leadership skills through building GNAR bikes with his dad, running a successful pottery business, and ability to prioritize his education, balancing work and other extracurriculars in his life. We feel LeBlanc will truly excel in college and an engineering career.
LeBlanc will receive $1,500 to apply toward his studies. He plans to study mechanical engineering at Western Colorado University.
