Dear Editor:
Rio Blanco Fire Protection District (Meeker Fire
Rescue) would like to thank our community for its
tremendous support past, present and future. The
board of directors voted a ½ mill holiday at for the
2019 budget. Similar ½ mill tax holidays have been
approved by the Board since 2012.
Many citizens tracked the progress of the new
administration building at 240 Seventh St. We are
happy to announce the building is now complete except
for a bit of interior decorating. The building houses
the administration offices, board room, a large training
room and a reception area with the antique 1939 Dodge
fire truck. The district plans to host an open house
this spring, with date and time to be announced later.
The training room and board room can be reserved for
business or community meetings.
Phase II will begin soon and involve demolition
and remodeling of the interior portion of the old
offices. Included in the remodeling is a bunker gear
room, two offices, a day room, sleeping quarters,
laundry room and storage areas. Funding for these
projects were made possible by sound fiscal planning
and budgeting and a $1 million Department of Local
Affairs (DOLA) Energy Impact Grant. Remaining
funds from the DOLA grant will be utilized on Phase
II. The grant expires December 2019.
Many local contractors assisted in Phase I
construction. The board prefers to utilize local business
as much as possible. If you would like to submit a bid
for demolition of the interior space at 236 Seventh
St., please contact the fire department. A list will be
prepared and interested parties contacted to review the
demolition project and submit bids. Methods of contact
include walk-in at 240 Seventh St. during business
hours, call 970-878-3443, email office@meekerrescue.
