Letter: Postpone Old Timers, start Any Timers

Dear Editor:

What a time to try and plan large community get-togethers. At the present time, there is a continuing spike in the Covid/flu cases building in the community. For most of us who enjoyed the community Old Timers dance in past years, we are saddened by the possibility of having to cancel the dance until it becomes safe to intermingle.

It is time to begin preparing for another OT dance the first Saturday in June, which will require several man hours from the members to accomplish setting up the dance. There were two meetings of the committee during 2021, with only a few persons showing up at the meetings. Based on the low attendance at those meetings and the current Covid situation, it will be difficult to form a “big” workforce to accomplish the logistics of putting on the dinner dance.

The “executive“ committee has been reduced due to the loss of Connie Theos and others planning to help with the event. There is sufficient funds available that will help defray costs of the next dinner dance. I would like to have a local member volunteer to be the treasurer.

Therefore, I am proposing that we postpone the dinner for at least another year.  I think we have to accept the fact that there may never be an “Old Timers” again.

Now is the time to see a new “Any Timers” Rio Blanco County Pioneers Association. All of us aging Old Timers would love to see you younger folks keep the community celebration going every year.
