Dear Editor:
This is an invitation to all in the Rio Blanco community: Meeker will receive state-wide coverage on Rocky Mountain PBS on Feb. 28, 2019. Featured in their Colorado Experience Season Six program, the Meeker Classic episode will embark on a journey, witnessing dog and handler versus sheep at the Meeker Classic, where the competition and the town have welcomed the world’s top sheep dogs for more than 30 years.
Every year Colorado Experience conducts a “Viewer’s Choice Award” where they let viewers decide what episode they’ll produce. Last year Meeker won the voting competition and will be featured on the upcoming episode of Colorado Experience on Feb. 28, 2019, at 7:30 p.m. on Rocky Mountain PBS.
Over the years, the Meeker Classic has grown from the ground up by the hard work and dedication of countless community volunteers. Each year thousands of visitors flock to Meeker to celebrate the sport of sheepdog trials, the beautiful country and our vibrant community.
Rocky Mountain Public Broadcasting Service and the Meeker Classic will host a free screening on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2019, from 6–8 p.m. at the Meeker High School auditorium. We invite all who can attend to share this evening with us. If you’re unable to come on Feb. 27, please be sure to tune in Thursday, Feb. 28 at 7:30 p.m. to RMPBS to watch the half hour episode. Please join us in celebrating the good work of this community.
We have so much to be proud of here in Meeker—a handler phrased it so well in a comment to us: “Many thanks to all of your volunteers for their work and their courtesy. You all continue to keep Meeker as the standard to which any trial might aspire to meet, and you remind us all why Meeker itself is such and exceptional place. The country is beautiful and so are the people.”
Thank you and hope you can join us on Feb. 27 at the MHS auditorium! If not, don’t miss the episode on Rocky Mountain PBS.
