Dear Editor:
I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who showed up for the work session and county commissioner’s meeting on April 12 despite the snow and inclement weather. The demography of the Meeker contingent was varied and across the board. Republican, Democratic and Unaffiliated men and women who have represented and served on multiple community boards and taxing districts stood up to speak from experience. Two past County commissioners, three Town council members, our Town planner of many years, Hospital, Hospice, Sanitation, Planning Commission, and Cemetery Board members to name a few. It made me proud to be a part of this community. They lobbied for due process and improved open communication with concern for the people who work in this county, and for the special taxing districts and boards who provide critical services for both towns. They advocated in both instances (with the CCITF funds, and the defunding of the maintenance for our Dominion equipment) for the commissioners to slow down their decision making and communicate better and the examine the options.
To clarify — neither side felt that the need of water was not an issue. The $4 million had been tentatively budgeted late last year to come out of county reserve funding, however, it didn’t become clear until within the last month or two that it would come out of the CCITF funds with little or no notification to the special taxing districts of Meeker or Rangely. There has not been any solid evidence to prove our Dominion machines have been tampered with, only intimations that they could be. The Dominion machines are not connected at any time to the internet during an election.
