VFW Ladies Auxiliary Chapter to close

It is with a heavy heart that we are writing this letter. Due to a declining membership and no new memberships in our auxiliary, Meeker V.F.W. Post 5843 Auxiliary will be relinquishing our charter.
This week’s upcoming activities: presentation of Patriot’s Pen award winners, placing flags on veteran’s graves, presentation of the high school scholarships, and the Memorial Day ceremonies will be our last public functions as an auxiliary.
Meeker “V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary” received their charter on March 11, 1947 and has been an important staple throughout the Meeker community ever since. On August 21, 2015, the V.F.W. passed a resolution to amend Article XI, Sections 1101-1104 of their National Bylaws at their 116th National Convention allowing male spouses and family members to join the “V.F.W. Auxiliary”. From that time on, we have been known as Meeker V.F.W. Post 5843 Auxiliary. With some of our auxiliary members maturing and the inability to recruit new members to support our local active duty service members, veterans and their families, the auxiliary reluctantly voted to relinquish our charter. We just do not have enough people to promote patriotism and support past and present service members.
The auxiliary promotes youth focused activities, such as Patriot’s Pen, Voice of Democracy, Teacher of the Year, Patriotic Art contest and Meeker High School senior scholarships. Please contact the local Meeker V.F.W. Post 5843 for information regarding future youth focused activities. You may contact them at 970-878-3758, or stop by 290 4th Street when they are open. Their meetings are the second Thursday of every month starting at 5:30 PM.
The Meeker V.F.W. Post 5843 Auxiliary members would like to extend their appreciation and gratitude to V.F.W. Post 5843 and the community for their years of support and encouragement.
