Letters To The Editor, Opinion

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR – January 1st, 2026

Thank you to EMS

Dear Editor:

To my friends and Meeker Fire Department/Ambulance/Hospital, words cannot express the gratitude I have for all of these people who showed up when I needed them the most. And to the ones that are still showing up. The care you receive from this group of volunteers is amazing.  They have a very high standard, and they all work well together to achieve what is the best plan for your safety and care.  I am very blessed to be surrounded by all of these kind, caring people.

Thank you,

Kate Proctor

Sharing a concern about ‘gas station heroin’

Dear Editor:

I am writing this letter out of concern and as an alert. I hadn’t heard of “gas station heroin” until recently. Commonly marketed as a dietary supplement, boosting energy. This stuff is easily found in gas stations and convenience stores. It’s addictive and it can be deadly. My husband and I personally know of two individuals impacted by this supplement: a 30-plus year old had a stroke, the other nearly died from an overdose. Neither one knew just how deadly this stuff can be.

Here’s the information I found, with links at the bottom. Some of the names it goes by include: Kratom, Tianaa, Zaza, Neptune’s Fix, Pegasus, and TD Red. All of these have opioid-like effects and we’ve heard it’s harder to come off of than heroin itself!

Please check out these links for more information on the dangers of these supplements.
