Overdue thank you
Dear Editor:
I would like everyone to know what a great community Meeker is!
Thank you so much to the first responders, Meeker Volunteer Fire Department and the BLM firefighters.
Your quick response to the fire up Lions Canyon saved homes, people, and their animals. Just can’t say it enough. Thank you!
Also, a big thank you to Henry Arcolesse for sending food to those out there fighting the fire.
Proud to be in Meeker

School year should count toward tenure
Dear Editor:
I have been told that teachers that have not yet received tenure, that this year will not be counted due to the pandemic, is that true? In my opinion I feel that is unfair. Haven’t they had regular classroom for 75% of this school year? I know there are evaluations that need to be given but if teachers and students have “classroom” through computer, or whatever device is used, can’t the powers that be get online and do the same? Teachers still have lesson planning and I would think that this year would be quite appropriate for evaluations because Administration could also evaluate their performance under stress and unusual circumstances. My other question, is this throughout the state or is it our district that decided this?
Some of the kids I talked to really miss their teachers and undoubtedly the teachers would prefer to be in the classroom with their students. Hopefully the ones that decided that this year is a “wash” for teachers will reconsider. I do understand that not everyone is cut out to be an educator and that evaluations are extremely important, but please don’t discourage our teachers by a slap in the face that this school year doesn’t count.
