MEEKER | The Meeker chapter of the Lions Club is in the process of raising funds to replace the playground equipment at the park adjacent to the Meeker School District office at Sixth and Garfield. To date, the Meeker Lions Club has raised $10,500. Due to COVID-19 pandemic, the club has extended its fundraising efforts until September 2021. The goal for the purchase of the playground equipment and installation is $40,000 and will include two pieces of equipment; one piece for younger children (2-5 years old) and another piece for older children (from 5-12 years old). The Meeker Lions Club is currently soliciting community involvement and several grant requests have been written and submitted for additional funds. Committee members from the Meeker Lions Club have been working with the Recreation and Park District and are looking to the County Commissioners for additional assistance. The Town of Meeker has already contributed to the playground project, and private donations are also being sought after. Any person or group donating $1,000 or more will be recognized by having their name added to a plaque permanently displayed at the park site.
