Lions receive awards at annual party

On Tuesday, Dec. 7 the Meeker Lions Club held its annual Christmas party at the Mexican House Restaurant. This was an “all Club” event with invited guests. During the dinner Lions Club President Brett Dearman was honored to present many significant awards to many Lions for their supreme efforts over the past year(s). These are listed below:

Distinguished Service Award: Mike Miller, Mike Hoke, Tom Allen, Terry Ivie and Dale Smith.

Lifetime Achievement Award (Active Member of Meeker Lions for more than 20 years): JH Sheridan, Mark Rogers, Bill Jordan and Jim Joy.

Lion of the Year: JH Sheridan, Mark Rogers, Bill Jordan and Bernie Gantt.

In addition to providing meals at the below listed events, this year alone the Meeker Lions Club has donated more than $4,000 to scholarships for local high school seniors, collected eyeglasses, paid for eye care for local residents, and donated funds to support the Close-Up program for local students to participate in the annual trip to Washington, D.C.

The most notable event for the Club during 2020 and 2021 has been working toward replacing the playground equipment at the park to the west of the school administration building at Park and Sixth. The COVID crisis has caused delays in delivering equipment, but this project is expected to be completed in spring of 2022.

If you are looking for “that something” to do in the Meeker community, why not take a look at a well-organized and active worldwide organization that is right here in your backyard. Lions Club meets every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the VFW Hall/Lions Club House located at the SE corner of Main and Fourth streets. The meeting includes free dinner. Please call Mike Hoke at 970-629-8866 or Bernie Gantt at 970-220-2034 for more information. (We are on Christmas vacation and the next meeting will be Jan. 4, 2022.) Don’t wait, call now! Any adult, young or old is welcome!

With support from, and in participation with many local entities, Meeker Lions Club has provided meals at the following public events this past year: Summer Rodeo Series (13 Thursdays), Range Call (five events), Jammin’ Lamb at the Meeker Classic, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation dinner, Colorado Grand Car Show luncheon, Meeker Mustang Makeover, RBC Fair Auction dinner, Christmas Tree cutting/sales, Easter Egg Hunt, Breakfast with Santa, Meeker Skijor, ice fishing event at Lake Avery, annual Police Night Out, Annual Fireman’s (Ball)/BBQ, WREA annual Customer Appreciation event, R-100 archery shoot, and the Meeker Craft Fair.
