MEEKER | 40-year-old Matthew Griffiths, an Army veteran and local insurance agent in Meeker, is in the ICU at St. Mary’s in Grand Junction following a horrific ski accident at Keystone. Matthew came to a trail merger when he was hit from behind by another skier. His injuries include six broken ribs, a saddle pulmonary embolism, deep vein thrombosis, and a pneumothorax. His recovery will take up to a year.
“Matthew is a valued member of this community who volunteers his time and gives back in countless ways,” Molly Lewis, Matthew’s ex-wife, wrote on GoFundMe. “He is involved with many organizations around town and is truly one of the kindest people you will meet.”
Lewis started a GoFundMe asking the community to help Matthew cover his medical bills and living expenses while he recovers and is unable to work. Here is the fundraiser link: https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-matthews-recovery-after-ski-accident
