MEEKER | Meeker Arts and Cultural Council (MACC) was founded in 2010 to promote and encourage opportunities in the performing and fine arts for youth and adults of the Meeker Community. Founding members Gary and Laurie Zellers envisioned and created the Center Stage Youth Theatrical Group (CSYTG) for third through eighth graders to inspire their interest and development as young thespians and to annually participate. High school age Drama Club and International Thespian Society Troupe 1284 students often assist and mentor CSYTG performers and crew members with productions. The Meeker School District Re-1 and Meeker High School have generously provided use of the MHS Auditorium and resources for rehearsals and production venues. MACC deeply appreciates the generous support of youth and adult volunteers contributing their time and talents to the performing arts productions.
In collaboration with the generous financial and administrative support of the ERBM Recreation and Park District, MACC has been able to sustain many popular Broadway musical productions suitable for that age group. Since that time, MACC CSYTG has produced Annie, Jr., Cinderella, Jr. Hansel and Gretel, Jr., Alice in Wonderland, Jr., Seussical, the Musical, Jr., Shrek, the Musical, Jr. The Wizard of Oz, (a co-production with the Meeker High School Drama Club and International Thespian Society Troupe 1284), The Little Mermaid, Jr., Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Jr., and the 2018 production of Walt Disney’s Mary Poppins, Jr.
Many Meeker youth have participated in the program, some since the first production in 2010 and have continued in the Meeker High School Drama Club productions and following graduation, have continued their performing arts careers and avocational interests in higher education and in lifelong career interests.
