This delightful CSYTG renowned Broadway musical is the tenth outstanding youth musical production since the series was created by MACC in 2010 and introduces the wonderful world of the performing arts to aspiring young actors of the community. CSTYG engages young performers from third through eighth grade introducing them to the joys of the performing arts through acting and technical theatre production experiences. Older performing arts youth in the MHS Drama Club and International Thespian Society Troupe 1284 assist with mentoring and coaching young performers. Many community parents and volunteers with performing arts experience and talent share in the production logistics to enable these worthwhile opportunities for youth. ERBM Recreation and Park District collaboratively provides funding and resources for the production.
Based on one of Roald Dahl’s most poignantly quirky stories, James and the Giant Peach Jr. is a brand new take on this “masterpeach” of a tale. Featuring a wickedly tuneful score and a witty and charming book, this adventurous musical about courage and self-discovery is destined to be a classic. When James is sent by his conniving aunts to chop down their old fruit tree, he discovers a magic potion that grows a tremendous peach, rolls into the ocean and launches a journey of enormous proportions.
James befriends a collection of singing insects that ride the giant piece of fruit across the ocean, facing hunger, sharks and plenty of disagreements along the way.
The possibilities for creative costuming and puppetry abound, and young actors will love playing the outlandish and larger-than-life human and insect characters.
James and the Giant Peach, Jr., is presented by special arrangement with Music Theatre International.
Book by Timothy Allen McDonald;
Music and Lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul;
