Colorado’s oldest rodeo returns July 3–6 with history, heritage and hometown pride
This Fourth of July, the town of Meeker will mark a major milestone: the 140th anniversary of Range Call, Colorado’s oldest continuously running rodeo and one of the region’s most cherished traditions.
First held in 1885—the same year Meeker was incorporated—Range Call began as a simple rodeo and community gathering. Over the decades, it has grown into a multi-day festival that draws thousands of visitors to this historic town on the Western Slope. The event blends small-town charm, frontier history, Western sports, and family-friendly fun into a signature celebration of Independence Day.
This Year’s Highlights
The 140th Range Call celebration runs from July 3 to July 6 and features a packed schedule of events:
• Ranch Rodeo – Friday, July 4 at 2 p.m., showcasing working cowboy skills at the Rio Blanco County Fairgrounds.
• Fourth of July Parade – A hometown favorite, this year’s theme honors “Women of the West.”
• Bank Robbery Reenactment – A crowd-pleasing performance based on the failed 1896 Meeker bank robbery.
• Concerts and Barn Dance – Live music and dancing under the stars.
• Pancake Breakfast, 5K Race, Root Beer Float Sales, Shooting Event, Vendor Fair, and Fireworks – Daily events provide entertainment for all ages.
• Historical Tours – Including visits to the Milk Creek Battlefield and local museum exhibits.
• Newer additions like a motocross stunt show and ATV rodeo bring high-flying excitement to balance the classic rodeo competitions and historical flair.
Community Celebration
Range Call is more than a rodeo—it’s a celebration of Meeker’s heritage and identity. It connects generations, honors the area’s pioneer past, and brings together locals and visitors in a true display of Western hospitality.
In addition to the cultural and historical elements, Range Call provides a strong economic boost for Meeker. Local businesses, restaurants, hotels, and vendors see a sharp uptick in activity during the holiday week, with many visitors returning year after year.
