MEEKER | The Meeker High School girls golf team returned to the course last week, traveling to Eagle to compete in the Eagle Ranch Tournament. It was the team’s first match since March 10, when they opened their season at Chipeta Golf Course in Grand Junction.
Head coach Amanda Back reflected on the tournament, highlighting her takeaways after the long break.
“I’m so proud of them — Mia Pinzon, Joelle Soler, Kai Watson and Lili Hernandez — they did so awesome and hit the ball well,” Back said.
She noted that the conditions were tough for all four players.
“It was cold and a long course with a lot of sand,” she said. “They played so well.”
Back also took a moment to spotlight two seniors who played singles for the first time in their high school careers: Joelle Soler and Mia Pinzon.
Soler shot a 67 on the front nine and a 71 on the back nine, finishing with a score of 138 (+66) over 18 holes. Pinzon recorded a 70 on the front and 71 on the back for a final score of 141 (+69).
While the Cowboys had some time off, the team stayed focused on preparing for their return to competition. Back described their preparation heading into the Eagle Ranch Tournament, hosted by Eagle Valley High School.
“They have been practicing every day on the driving range and putting green,” she said.
As a team, Meeker finished even par through 18 holes.
The team was scheduled to compete in Craig on Monday, but that match was canceled. On Tuesday, they returned to action at Tiara Rado Golf Course in Redlands, Colorado.
Back said the players are continuing to balance both mental and physical preparation as the season progresses.
“They are working very hard to make sure they are prepared,” she said.
Looking at the team’s season as a whole so far, Back expressed optimism.
“They are continually getting better and working hard to improve their games,” she said.
Good luck to the Meeker High School girls golf team as they continue their season and begin preparing for the regional tournament, and as always, go Cowboys!
