MEEKER — Don’t forget to “spring forward” one hour this Saturday night before you go to bed. We’re back to daylight -saving time, ladies and gentlemen! Spring is on its way, and it’s certainly felt that way the past week or so. Don’t put those coats and snowboots away yet, though. March is traditionally the snowiest month of the year in Colorado.

March 8 is International Women’s Day. It is a national holiday in China, Armenia, Russia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Macedonia, Moldova, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Vietnam. Women use 20,000 words a day compared to the 7,000 words a day men use. Women do two-thirds of the world’s work but receive only 10 percent of the world’s income. Females in developing countries on average carry 20 liters of water per day over 6 kilometers. Of 1.2 billion
people living in poverty worldwide, 70 percent are women. (Statistics are from www.internationalwomensday.com.)
