MEEKER I Work began in earnest last week on the Meeker Airport Runway Reconstruction Project. Fiore and Sons, Inc., began major dirt-work operations at the airport and will continue into the fall until winter weather shuts them down.
The runway will be closed on Sept. 5 for displacement of the threshold at the north end. From Sept. 6 to March 31, 2013, the runway will be shortened to approximately 4,400 feet to facilitate some storm drain replacement on the north end of the runway.
The runway will be closed for all airplane traffic on April 1, 2013.
The runway project is scheduled to be completed in Fall 2013, at which point normal flight operations will resume.
The new runway will be constructed to handle the heavier weights of the larger aircraft it is already receiving and the grade will be flattened for the higher speed aircraft that are currently using the facility. The length of the runway will remain at 6,500 feet and the width will be widened from 60 feet to 100 feet.
