MEEKER SCHOOL DISTRICT: Accredited with Distinction, again!

Meeker School District RE-1 is “Accredited with Distinction” again! This is the highest accreditation rating given by the Colorado Department of Education. In 2024, only 17 entities earned “Accredited with Distinction” status, representing just 9.2% of local education agencies in the state. Furthermore, based on scores published by the Colorado Department of Education, Meeker School District earned the sixth-highest score in the state, placing our district in the top 3.3% of all local education agencies in Colorado and making us the top school district in Northwest Colorado.

The accreditation ratings used by the Colorado Department of Education come from the District Performance Framework (DPF). Six BOCES organizations that run schools and 178 school districts receive a DPF. The scores on the DPF are primarily based on results from CMAS testing and the SAT suite of assessments. The DPF also includes a section on “postsecondary readiness,” which measures items such as graduation and matriculation rates.

In addition to the DPF, each of our schools receives a School Performance Framework (SPF). All three schools received the highest rating possible from the Colorado Department of Education. All three schools earned scores that placed them in the top third of all schools in Colorado, with Meeker High School achieving a score in the top 10%. For Northwest Colorado, all three schools were in the top 23.3%, and Meeker High School was ranked sixth out of 112 schools in our region (top 5.4%).

These accomplishments are not by chance. They are a testament to the hard work of our students and the high expectations set by our families. The staff in the Meeker School District are incredibly talented educators who put forth tremendous effort to help students learn. Student learning is the number one priority for our district. The scores we have achieved through the state’s accreditation system are the outcome of the hard work and high expectations in place at Meeker School District.

The state accreditation system provides the most concrete evidence of student learning. However, student learning is evident in various other areas as well. Phenomenal opportunities for student learning also occur through our elective and extracurricular programs, which extend beyond what is measured by the DPF and SPFs. Anyone in our community who has attended concerts, plays, or extracurricular contests can clearly see teamwork, perseverance, and self-confidence built through these activities. The development of citizenship, creativity, and problem-solving is also evident through student artwork, Career and Technical Education events or projects, technology integration, and positive behavior and attendance recognition.

The evidence of learning within Meeker School District RE-1 is exemplary and is a testament to our students, community, and school staff. I am proud to be a Meeker Cowboy!
