MEEKER | The White River National Forest Blanco Ranger District reminds forest visitors that summer motorized use does not begin on Miller Creek Road (FSR 215) until May 21 to protect road conditions. This also applies to mountain bikes and other wheeled vehicles.

While this rule has been in place for more than 10 years for roads across much of the White River National Forest including Miller Creek, a gate was recently installed on the Forest boundary at Miller Creek to help with travel management. Motorized travel on wet, muddy roads can cause significant road damage and erosion.
“Miller Creek is one of the first areas accessible in the spring, and we had been seeing increasing impacts to the road from motorized use before May 21,” said Blanco District Ranger Curtis Keetch. “Until Miller Creek Road is open to motorized and wheeled vehicles, please plan on parking at the gate and enjoying non-motorized recreation activities such as hiking, hunting, and horseback riding.”
All forest visitors are responsible for knowing when and where motorized use is allowed. Paper Motor Vehicle Use Maps are free at the Blanco Ranger District. Motorized use as well as bicycle maps are also available online at: https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/whiteriver/landmanagement/?cid=stelprdb532867
